Beginners weekend workshop on Skye
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig was buzzing with creative energy earlier this month with this year’s gathering of film makers for the FilmG weekend workshop. This year we were delighted to welcome actor, screenwriter and lecturer Stuart Hepburn (University of the West of Scotland) and acclaimed television director Michael Haines (Still Game, River City) to our panel of tutors. Michael Haines said “I thoroughly enjoyed teaching on this course, the students were so keen to learn and there was a great buzz during the weekend.”
Workshop sessions were also directed by sound recordist Becky Thomson, cameraman Keith Ingram and production co-ordinator Mairi ‘Ord’ MacKenzie.

On Saturday evening Amanda Millen, Screen & Broadcast Industries development manager for Highlands & Islands Enterprise, hosted a short film screening night, where a variety of short films were discussed and critiqued.
We’re grateful to all participants for their input and positive feedback about how helpful and enjoyable the workshops were. We’re really looking forward to seeing the films!

Tell your story !
A series intensive one day workshops on story development took place in Glasgow, North Uist, Argyll and Stornoway throughout September. The workshop offered participants a unique chance to learn about writing for short film and taking a script to the next level with expert advice from course tutor and producer Amanda Millen.
The FilmG team are grateful to Taigh Chearsabhagh, Pròiseict Nan Ealan, Scottish Screen and Highlands and Islands Enterprise for helping to make these workshops possible.
Visit www.filmg.co.uk/gd/training_adult.html for more information and updates about future workshops in your area and don’t forget, the closing date for submitting films to FilmG is 20 November 2009!

The Crofters and the War
The Crofters and the War: Remembering the past, recording for the future, is a project working with local schools and community groups to interview people with memories of wartime. The material collected will be used to create a website, book and touring exhibition.
This project could make a fantastic short film about the many hero’s from this area. Are you a budding director or cameraman who’d love to make a short film but haven’t quite found time to write a script? Project Coordinator, Mary Carmichael would be willing to help with information and material for a short film, contact her on: 01470532271 or carmichaelandme@googlemail.com.

Stitches on the Bridge: A chance to film a unique event!
Stitches on the Bridge, a project aiming to cover the Skye Bridge with knitting and crochet from around the world as part of the Highland Homecoming celebrations, is offering the opportunity for someone to make a short film of the pieces going on the Skye Bridge on Friday 23 October. Already they have pieces from as far afield as China, Australia, the US and Europe. Leading up to the hanging, the pieces will all be sown together in Broadford. Both of these could be suitable for filming too.
There is no funding for the filming but the organisers can cover expenses.
For more information go to the website www.stitchesonthebridge.co.uk or contact Alison at stitchesonthebridge@hotmail.co.uk.
