FilmG launch at goNorth
FilmG held a special launch event for members of the screen and broadcast media and film makers at the goNorth festival in Inverness, Friday 12 June.
Delegates gathered for a light lunch and glass of wine after which Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA introduced last year’s winning professional film, ‘Siubhlachan’ by Uisdean Murray. Unfortunately Uisdean couldn’t be there to speak about his film as he was promoting it at the Time Film Festival in Switzerland. New Entrant winner Seonaid MacDonald spoke about the experience of making her film ‘Oidhche Shathairne’ along with her cameraman, Jim Hope. Their successful collaboration began at the FilmG workshop weekend on Skye last October. Indeed it was great to see so many of last year’s entrants again and hear about their current projects.
Collaboration is a key message to participants in FilmG this year. Make sure to use our website and social networks to get in touch with the right people who can help you with your projects, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch with the FilmG team (Floraidh and Michelle).
A huge thanks to Amanda Millen and Iain Hamilton from Highlands and Islands Enterprise Creative Industries Department for giving us the opportunity and a really enjoyable day.

FilmG winner goes global!
Uisdean Murray, FilmG winner and acclaimed young director from North Uist has been invited to take part in two prestigious international film festivals this summer.
The Time Film Festival is an international competition of short films taking place in Switzerland on June 19 and 20 and the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival, taking place in South Korea on July 16 is the biggest genre film festival in Asia.
‘Siubhlachan’ will be considered for several awards at both the Time Film Festival and the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.
Uisdean Murray said: “I'm very proud of the film and all those that helped make it. It is a fantastic honour to be selected for such prestigious festivals and I am looking forward to promoting Siubhlachan to an international audience. I am currently developing the short film into a broadcast pilot for BBC ALBA.”
Donald Campbell, Chief Executive of MG ALBA said: “‘Siubhlachan’ is a gem. It encapsulates everything we hoped for from FilmG - an enthralling story told movingly with new on-screen talent. We wish Uisdean all the very best when he competes in these two major international film festivals in Switzerland and South Korea. Festival-goers are in for a treat when they see the film, and we hope they will see it as a showcase for the creative talent there is in the Gaelic television and film industry.”
“Siubhlachan is also screening at Rutger Hauer’s Internet Contest section of his film festival “I’ve Seen Films” later in the year. For further information visit www.icfilms.org
Interview with Megan MacLellan
Winner of Best Performance (Young People), FilmG 2008 for her role in An Rathad Dachaidh by Mallaig High School.
Has your life changed since FilmG 2008?
No, but winning an award gave me a lot of confidence. I also learned that you need more than one take to get a shot right!
An Rathad Dachaidh ended with a cliffhanger. Did anything happen between you and Fraser in the end?
No!
Would you like to star in a film?
Yes, but maybe a supporting role at first, to build up confidence.
What is your advice to anyone wanting to take part in FilmG 2009?
Enjoy it! Don’t just go with your first idea, develop a script and make something interesting happen within five minutes- don’t let it get boring!

FilmG Gaelic talent
If you are a making a film for FilmG and looking for a Gaelic speaker, please get in touch with us.
Our Gaelic talent bank is steadily growing. At the moment members of the Gaelic Talent bank can be found on our dedicated Facebook page; Co-fharpais FilmG, so why not have a look for yourself? If you would like to contact anyone on this page send an email to fios@filmg.
We will shortly be uploading Gaelic Talent onto the FilmG website.
If you are an aspiring writer, actor or performer and willing to share your language skills, now is the time to get involved. You could get the opportunity to work with students from other universities like Napier/RSAMD/Glasgow Caledonian/UWS who already doing media courses, have great technical skills but without Gaelic.
You won’t get paid but it is stepping stone to working in Gaelic media, with judges from BBC ALBA and other organisations (Scottish Screen and BAFTA Scotland) seeing your work. You could also be in with a chance to win a prize for best performance or best presenter.
